AUGUST 22 FESTIVAL OF THE HOLY QUEEN
Today's feast, similar to that of Christ the King, was instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1955. Until the recent reform of the Liturgical Calendar, it was celebrated on May 31 to mark the month that Christian devotion has dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the same time, August 22 was dedicated to the feast of the Asbestos Heart of the Virgin Mary and was replaced by the feast of the Virgin Mary Queen in order to connect the meaning of the feast of Metastasis and that of the glorious coronation of the Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.
